Policy Brief | MIIT: In 2023, the value added of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 4.6% year on year.
On the morning of January 19, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to present an overview of industrial and information technology development in 2023. At the event, officials noted that the industrial economy has generally shown a recovery and improvement trend, the information and communications sector is accelerating its growth, and high-quality development is making steady progress. In 2023, the value added of industries above designated size increased by 4.6% year on year, up one percentage point from 2022. Both the number of provinces and industries recording growth expanded, while the ten key industries and ten major industrial provinces played an increasingly prominent role as stabilizers of growth. Meanwhile, the overall scale of China’s manufacturing sector has remained the world’s largest for 14 consecutive years.

Industrial relocation unleashes new momentum.
As economic globalization deepens and the global division of labor within industrial value chains continues to evolve, investment from numerous countries—including China—has been growing rapidly in regions such as Southeast Asia. In China, a major global manufacturing hub, the central and western regions are accelerating their opening-up and actively attracting industrial relocation from the eastern coastal areas. To forge broad connections with high‑quality resources and unlock new potential across industries, CHINAPLAS 2019, the International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition, will be held in Guangzhou in May 2019, seizing emerging opportunities and mounting a vigorous push into these burgeoning markets.
