Industrial relocation unleashes new momentum.

Author:

As economic globalization continues to deepen and the global division of labor within industrial value chains undergoes ongoing adjustments, many countries—including China—have seen rapid growth in investment across regions such as Southeast Asia. In China, a major global manufacturing powerhouse, the central and western regions are accelerating their opening-up efforts and actively attracting industrial relocation from the eastern coastal areas. To forge broad connections with high‑quality resources and unlock new potential within the industry, CHINAPLAS 2019, the International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition, scheduled to take place in Guangzhou in May 2019, is seizing emerging opportunities and launching a robust, targeted initiative to expand into these burgeoning markets.

As economic globalization deepens and the global division of labor within industrial value chains continues to evolve, investment by numerous countries—including China—has been growing rapidly in regions such as Southeast Asia. In China, a major global manufacturing powerhouse, the central and western regions are accelerating their opening-up and actively attracting industrial relocation from the eastern coastal areas. To forge broad connections with high‑quality resources and unlock new potential across industries, CHINAPLAS 2019, the International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition, will be held in Guangzhou in May 2019, seizing emerging opportunities and launching a robust, targeted push into these burgeoning markets.

Global check-in mode is now live, with exhibition promotion flourishing everywhere.

The assembly of a single automobile relies on components sourced from more than 20 countries across four continents, while the parts for a passenger aircraft come from 1,500 major corporations and 15,000 small and medium-sized enterprises. Global industries have become so finely specialized and widely distributed that, from the Canton Fair to the China International Import Expo, China has consistently pursued both “going global” and “attracting investment,” thereby fostering worldwide economic and trade exchanges. Chinese manufacturers are increasingly active in relocating or expanding overseas; rubber and plastics companies, in particular, are stepping up their international presence and accelerating investments in new production facilities. For example, Haitian International built plants in Vietnam in 2010, and in India and Turkey in 2018, while also establishing application centers in Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and other locations. In 2017, Yizumi commissioned a newly constructed plant in India and opened a showroom there; Ningbo Shuangma launched a new factory in India; Jinfa Technology and Guangdong Liansu followed suit by setting up manufacturing operations in India; and Jinwei Machinery established overseas offices in Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, and other markets. Meanwhile, leading Chinese consumer‑electronics firms such as Xiaomi plan to build three additional smartphone‑manufacturing plants in India, while industry giants like Haier, Leike Electric, Gree, and Hisense are likewise targeting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other regions as prime destinations for overseas production.

Benefiting from a demographic dividend and the growth of labor-intensive industries, Southeast Asia’s economy has steadily risen, making it an attractive destination for investment. To promote the region, including other emerging markets, the organizers of CHINAPLAS 2019—International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition—have employed multi-channel, multi‑faceted outreach strategies, such as media partnerships, advertising campaigns, and targeted marketing. They have also dispatched dedicated promotion teams to the area, engaging with influential industry associations—including the Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises Association, the Thai Household Goods Industry Association, the Thai Tools and Molds Industry Association, the Thai Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association, and the Thai Electric Vehicle Manufacturers Association—each of which has expressed willingness to share exhibition information with local businesses. Additionally, the team has participated in key regional events, such as the MPMA Perek Branch Annual Gala in Malaysia, the Malaysian Electrical Industry Association Annual Dinner, Thailand’s 28th Asian Plastics Forum, and the 17th AFPI Conference, fostering in-depth engagement with attending companies.

The central and western Chinese markets are experiencing explosive growth, nurturing tremendous potential in the rubber and plastics sectors.

In addition to launching a global “check-in” trend, CHINAPLAS 2019—The International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition—has also spared no effort in promoting the event within China. Recently, the China Central and Western Plastics Industry Alliance joined as a new supporting organization. Established in May 2018, the Alliance is committed to implementing the national Belt and Road Initiative and the State Council’s Guiding Opinions on Industrial Relocation to the Central and Western Regions, while fostering closer communication and collaboration among plastics industries across these regions.

“We have joined forces with the China Central and Western Plastics Industry Alliance to collaboratively drive the development of the plastics sector in China’s central and western regions,” said Ms. Liang Yaqi, General Manager of the exhibition organizer, Yashi Exhibition Services Co., Ltd. “While the eastern coastal areas enjoy clear advantages in innovation-driven growth, they face constraints such as limited land resources and soaring labor costs. By contrast, after 40 years of reform and opening-up, the central and western regions have seen a marked improvement in economic performance, abundant natural resources, lower factor costs, and enhanced infrastructure and investment climates—making them a key destination for industrial relocation. As manufacturing from the eastern coastal areas continues to shift inland, industrial clusters in the central and western regions are undergoing another round of upgrading. We are keenly sensing that this region is brimming with vitality and dynamism.”

In recent years, the central and western regions have posted particularly impressive development results. In 2017, Chongqing’s laptop exports reached RMB 128.51 billion, making it the world’s largest base for laptop production. Chongqing is also China’s leading automotive manufacturing hub, home to numerous brands including Changan, Changan Ford, GWM, Lifan, BAIC Yinxiang, and Dongfeng Sokon. Meanwhile, Wuhan, which is accelerating efforts to build a trillion-yuan‑scale automotive and auto‑parts industrial cluster, produced 1.89 million passenger vehicles in 2017, with the automotive industry generating an output value of RMB 360 billion, demonstrating robust momentum. In Henan Province, the heartland of the Central Plains, smartphone production surpassed 250 million units in 2017, establishing the region as the world’s largest base for smart‑phone manufacturing. Furthermore, five pillar industries—equipment manufacturing, food processing, advanced materials, electronics, and automotive manufacturing—are steadily gaining competitive advantages, fostering industrial clusters worth hundreds of billions of yuan. Hefei, in Anhui Province, serves as China’s home for the household‑appliance industry, hosting well‑known brands such as Meiling, Royalstar, Haier, Midea, and Whirlpool. At the same time, its flat‑panel display and electronic information sectors are rapidly emerging, brimming with strong growth potential. According to data, during the first three quarters of 2018, the central and western regions recorded total exports of RMB 1.95 trillion, up 13%—a pace 6.5 percentage points faster than the national average.

Delving into industrial clusters in the central and western regions, we listen to the needs and voices of enterprises.

The central and western regions are experiencing robust growth, driving strong demand for rubber and plastics. Data show that in 2017, Anhui Province and Henan Province recorded plastic product output growth rates of 11.21% and 7.18%, respectively; the twelve provinces and autonomous regions in the western region posted an 8.44% year-on-year increase. In both the central and western regions, production growth outpaced the national average, indicating a phase of rapid expansion.

Seizing opportunities in emerging markets and vying for dominance in the central and western regions! Throughout its promotional efforts, the organizers of CHINAPLAS 2019 International Plastics and Rubber Exhibition have ramped up their investment—both strategically and operationally—more than ever before. In addition to participating in major events across the central and western regions, the exhibition’s marketing team has personally visited key industry associations and enterprises, including: the Chongqing Plastics Industry Association, the Chongqing Industrial Design Association, the Chongqing Automobile and Motorcycle Industry Association, the Chongqing Building Waterproofing Association, Chongqing Jinkang New Energy Vehicles, Chongqing Haier Washing Machines, the Sichuan Society of Automotive Engineers, the Chengdu Packaging Technology Association, the Chengdu Automotive Industry Research Institute, Chengdu Dingxin Packaging, the Electric Vehicle Industry Branch of the Hubei Society of Automotive Engineers, the Automotive Industry Development Division of the Wuhan Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, the Wuhan Automobile Industry Association, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Dongfeng Yanfeng Automotive Trim Systems, Dongfeng Peugeot‑Citroën, Dongfeng Faurecia, Yangtze River Automobile, the Henan Automobile Industry Association, the Henan Packaging Technology Association, the Zhengzhou Food Safety Association, Henan Dali Foods, Haima Automobile, and others—gaining an in-depth understanding of industry needs and perspectives.
